What is Alpha Start for?

Through a structured workbook with tons of hands-on, experienced, and knowledgeable guidance, participants will identify, plan, conceive, launch, and grow their new e-commerce venture in one day!

  • Ongoing mentoring and coaching opportunities beyond the initial launch phase

What kind of businesses might you create? That’s up to you! Most cohorts will focus on e-commerce businesses that fall into one of three categories:

  • Service businesses (labor is exchanged for a fee).
  • Drop shipment businesses (product is manufactured, warehoused, and shipped for you by a third party).
  • Physical product businesses (product is manufactured, warehoused, and shipped by you).

But what will I actually get done? Well, your goal is to complete the following:

  • Come up with a side hustle business idea
  • Create a company name
  • Register a domain name and acquire relevant social media handles
  • Create a logo
  • Use the logo to create a business card design
  • Create a one-page flyer
  • Create a one-page website
  • Link the website to the domain name with a custom domain email account
  • Link the website to a relevant e-commerce engine (e.g. Fiverr, Shopify, Etsy, RedBubble) based upon your business
  • Generate social media posts for 52 weeks
  • Create and activateGoogle AdWords campaign to drive traffic to the website
  • Ideally, get your first sale!

Who is Alpha Start for?

Students, staff, faculty, and alumni of CSUDH. Community members may apply, but are subject to space availability.

When is Alpha Start?

We begin with an all-day intensive session on from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. You should have your brand, marketing materials, online platform, and digital marketing completed by the first day. If you’re aggressive, you should even have your first sale before you leave the room!
