Finance for Entrepreneurs

$10The Entrepreneurial Academy offers the opportunity to earn a Certificate of Completion in the Basics of Entrepreneurial Finance. The purpose of this class is to teach business owners how to understand what they need to know about Income Statements, Profit and Loss Statements, Cash Flow Statements and Break-Even Analysis.
The course is comprised of four 3-hour sessions during a 4 week period. Participants must attend 3 of 4 sessions in order to earn the Certificate. Active participation during these sessions is mandatory.
The purposes of these 4 finance sections are to present a basic introduction to finance concepts and how to apply those concepts to one’s business. Attendees will understand the role finance plays within the business, how statements and ratios can be used to evaluate the past and plan for the future, and what short term financial planning could look like in their business.
Session 1: Opportunity Recognition vs Opportunity costs
Session 2: Start-up costs, pitfalls and financing sources for your business startup
Session 3: Income and Profit and Loss Statements, Break Even Analysis
Session 4: Return on Sales, Return on Investment, Cash Flow, Summation
Instructor Bio:
Timothy L. Dura, Entrepreneur-In-Residence @ CSUDH, Coach and Mentor in CSUDH Entrepreneurship Incubator, Consultant for the Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship Program. Tim finished his undergrad work at North Dakota State University and his master’s program with Chapman University in Business Administration and Education. He is also a retired fighter pilot from the USAF, started 3 businesses, and is a retired high school teacher.
